Application Procedures

The MYLA Board is very pleased to announce that with the help and guidance of Allah (SWT) and all of those who generously contributed to the MYLA scholarship fund, MYLA will be giving out $37,000 in scholarship awards this year ($34,000 in general scholarship and $3000 in MYLA Journalism and Political Activism scholarship that will be coming soon).

The 2009-2010 MYLA regular Scholarship Application form is ONLINE. So no forms to print or mail (recommendation letters and transcripts still need to be sent via mail). The 2009-2010 MYLA-Haji Saidi Journalism/Political Activism Scholarship Application form is Adobe PDF based and needs to be filled in and mailed to MYLA.

While applying for the scholarship please follow all directions carefully. Eligibility criteria for this year's scholarship has changed. Please carefully review the Requirements and Evaluation criteria outlined in the application form. Failure to follow instructions will result in the application being disqualified.

Please take note of the following additional instructions:

1. Before applying make sure you meet the criteria listed in the application.
   
2. Deadline for submitting all material including scholarship application form for regular scholarship is June 12, 2009.
3. Deadline for submitting all material including scholarship application form for Journalism and Political Activism Scholarship is June 30, 2009.
   
4. Please note that there is only ONE specialized scholarship that covers both Journalism and Political Activism. In other words only one specialized scholarship will be awarded if all criteria established by MYLA for this scholarship is met and it will go to EITHER an applicant for Journalism OR Political Activism scholarship
5. Applicants can submit all three applications (i.e. regular, journalism and political activism) if they meet all criteria listed in each of the 3 application forms. However, an applicant will be eligible to receive only ONE scholarship from among the 3 applications (the one with the highest amount).
6. Letters of Recommendation MUST be filled out using the MYLA Letter of Recommendation Form and be sent via mail. Please follow the instructions on the form. Recommendation Letter form can be accessed by clicking here
7. To promote and encourage the pursuit of law education among the youth, applicants currently enrolled in a full-time law program will be awarded bonus credits based on a special essay available for only law students.
